Bird waching
For some time now anyone who visits the vineyards of Villa Ile in Treiso, finds numerous nests typical of a variety of bird species.
The collaboration of the Women of the Wine with the L.I.P.U. (Italian Club for the Protection of Birds) and the W.W.F. aims to safeguard in this area an incredible diversity of bird life, both migratory and non-migratory species. The wood nests are realized with thermo-insulating materials so that they represent an ideal nesting area for many species.
The birds in exchange for this attention feed on bugs that are harmful for the vineyards reducing therefore the insecticide treatments. A variety of birds that can be observed: Titmice, Sparrows, Short-toed Tree-creepers, Merlons besides the Red-tails, the Woodpeckers, the Pied Wagtails. At dusk or early in the morning it is the moment to observe nocturnal birds like Owls, Buffleheads, Barn Owls, Buzzards, Tawny Owls, Hoopoes as well as Bats. The four seasons offer to bird lovers different occasions of observation: late in spring we have the nest -building, in summer the egg hatching followed by the first flight of the broods, in autumn the gathering of the migratory birds flocks before their departure and in winter the birds approaching people and homes in search of food, winning their natural shyness.
Visitors are always welcome.
